38 Weeks and an Eviction Notice

I'm 38 weeks pregnant today. Do you know how many twin pregnancies make it to 38 weeks? Not many. I had a growth ultrasound on Wednesday and I'm officially carrying around approximately 14 lbs of baby! Carson is weighing in at 6 lbs 7 oz, and Tucker is a whopping 7 lbs 9 oz (bigger than Piper when she was born!) I thought twins were supposed to be small. I bought a couple of preemie outfits for the hospital, which I may not even need! I know those numbers can be off, but I've been monitored pretty closely throughout this pregnancy, so I feel pretty good about those estimates. The boys are cramped, but they look great. They have good strong heartbeats and we could see them both practicing swallowing and breathing. They're still very active, and like to give the ultrasound techs a hard time.

I'm still dilated 3 cm, but I'm completely effaced. My doctor said he has no idea why I'm not in labor. I've been having strong, painful contractions for about two weeks now, but they won't stay regular. Apparently, I have a very comfortable womb. Like one of the nurses said, "We had to pray these babies in there, now we're going to have to pray them out!" They told me I should win an award for their easiest twin pregnancy ever. We had a few bumps in the beginning with the ectopic scare and the off and on bleeding for 9 weeks, but this pregnancy has been (amazingly) uneventful since then. Don't get me wrong, this pregnancy has been tough both physically and emotionally, especially compared to my first pregnancy, but to carry twins full-term with no bed rest and no real complications is nothing short of miraculous. I'm so incredibly thankful, but I'm also very ready for the next part. I've waited a long time to hold these babies in my arms!

Unless I go into labor before then (which I'm not counting on,) the boys are going to be evicted on Wednesday the 18th.

Since my stubborn Tucker is still breech and a pound bigger than his brother, my doctors are recommending a c-section. I'm a little disappointed, but I know this is what's safest for my boys and that's what is most important. Since Tucker is so much bigger, there's a possibility that if he's born breech, his head could get trapped in my cervix. The chances of that actually happening are relatively low, but if it did happen it would cut off his oxygen supply and could mean permanent neurological damage. That's just not a risk we're willing to take. So, my surgery is scheduled and if I happen to go into labor before Wednesday, they'll do a c-section then.

FOUR more days!!!!
